Getting started
Build a tracker in a new spreadsheet and look around with the sample deploy.
Each deploy gets its own spreadsheet. Keep it afterwards: it is the record of what changed, when, and who signed off.
DeployLogs is in testing and not on the Google Workspace Marketplace yet. These steps are how it works once it is.
Build a tracker
- In Google Sheets, open a new, blank spreadsheet.
- Choose Extensions > DeployLogs > Build a new tracker.
- The first time, Google asks you to allow DeployLogs. The privacy policy lists what it asks for and why.
- A dialog shows each step of the build. It takes about a minute. Keep the dialog open until it says Done.
Try the sample
- Choose Extensions > DeployLogs > Fill in a sample deploy.
- Open the Overview tab. Every number has a "Where this comes from" note beside it.
- Open Teams to see which teams are ready, and Steps to see the runlist.
The sample only goes into an empty tracker. To start your real deploy, build a tracker in a new spreadsheet.
The tabs
- How to use: a short version of these guides.
- Overview: the deploy at a glance.
- Changes: what the deploy changes.
- Stages: the order of the deploy, with a gate at the end of each stage.
- Steps: the runlist.
- Data migration: records being moved, with counts.
- Smoke tests: checks after the deploy, and who signs them off.
- Gates: each team's Go or No-go.
- Teams, People, Rollback plan, Issues, Audit log.
Columns with an orange heading are worked out for you. Typing in them breaks the formula, so the sheet warns you first.
